Tessa survives as the sole winner to capture the “Copa Independencia 2026.”
This day marked Mexico’s Independence Day. Gun salutes echoed through the city all day long, enveloping the entire country in a festive mood. Amidst the celebrations, a special Independence Day event, “Tarde Mexicana,” was held at Arena México on a Wednesday—a day that typically doesn’t host shows.
The four Stardom wrestlers entered this special tournament. The match was contested under Torneo Cibernetico rules (CMLL’s elimination format), with the last surviving wrestler claiming the Copa Independencia 2026. The Mexican team assembled four top competitors: Lluvia, Zeuxis, Tessa Blanchard, and Gala Negra.
Mei and Negra started things off. Mei used her signature speed to toy with Negra, refusing to let her control the pace. She aimed for a flying body attack, but it resulted in friendly fire.
Next up were Maishima and Zeuxis. Maishima initiated with a sunset flip into a corner elbow. Zeuxis returned the favor with a corner elbow of her own. Maishima unveiled a diving tijeras from the corner for the first time, followed by a dropkick. She then delivered a headscissors whip (corbata) to Zeuxis.
Kid and Lluvia entered next. Kid hit an arm drag. They exchanged pinfall attempts, but both only yielded two-counts.
Maika and Tessa faced off. Maika unleashed a flurry of roll-ups, hitting a schoolboy, a small package, and a backslide. Scaling the second rope from the apron, Maika attempted a brainbuster to the outside, but Tessa held her ground, left Maika dangling, and delivered a stiff slap.
Tessa set up for a tope, but as she hit the ropes for momentum, Maika tripped her from the floor. Maika immediately hopped onto the apron and hit a plancha. As the two spilled outside, all eight women rushed in, sparking a massive brawl.
Maishima and Negra returned to the ring. After a chop battle, Maishima hit a low-angle dropkick. She followed up with a corner running knee and a running enzuigiri for a two-count. Negra answered with an elbow into a codebreaker for a two of her own. When Maishima’s next enzuigiri caught only air, Negra capitalized with a two-step knee strike.
Mei and Zeuxis squared off. Mei threw a feint into a slap, then executed a lucha-style arm drag and a boomerang headscissors. She then showed off a new technique, walking the ropes into a tijeras. She aimed for a plancha, but Zeuxis read the movement and evaded.
Maika and Lluvia engaged in an arm drag exchange. Maika hit a tijeras. Her corner charge was dodged, resulting in her getting smashed into the turnbuckles repeatedly. Lluvia hit a tijeras of her own.
Kid and Tessa. Tessa repeatedly leapfrogged Kid’s charging attacks, stringing together a dropkick and a superkick. Tessa climbed the ropes, but Kid countered with a top-rope arm drag. Kid hit a fisherman’s suplex, but it was only good for a two-count.
Tessa connected with rapid-fire stunners. Maika broke up the pin, forcing Tessa to roll outside. Maishima immediately hit a plancha. Maika and Zeuxis traded kicks that collided; Mei then dropkicked Zeuxis, while Negra dropkicked Maika. As Maika and Zeuxis fell to the outside, Negra launched a tope. Mei followed with a plancha, and then Kid and Lluvia hit planchas of their own. Arena México erupted into a frenzy over this spectacular aerial warfare.
Maika covered Negra for a two-count. Maika went for a lift, but Negra reversed it into a sunset flip for a two-count. Negra hit a running knee into the corner from behind. She attempted a fireman’s carry, but Maika escaped. As Negra charged, Maika countered with a Michinoku Driver II to score the first elimination, sending Negra to the back.
Maika hit Zeuxis with a tijeras. Maishima connected with a diving body attack, followed by a jumping knee. She paused to play to the crowd before hitting a Sling Blade for a two-count. However, Zeuxis answered with the Zeuxis Driver to eliminate Maishima.
Mei and Lluvia. Mei delivered a chop, and Lluvia chopped her right back. Mei slid underneath for a sunset flip, securing a two-count. Lluvia dropped to the corner, and as Mei spun around for an attack, Lluvia dumped her onto the apron. She then blasted her to the floor with a low-angle dropkick.
Kid and Tessa. Zeuxis joined the fray, leaving Kid at a 1-on-2 disadvantage. Kid forced them into friendly fire on a double-team attempt, then hit Tessa with a cazadora and Zeuxis with a headscissors whip. Tessa nailed Kid with a superkick. Maika sprang into action, assisting Kid with a running corner tackle.
Kid and Tessa both hit tijeras. Tessa executed a Liger Bomb on Maika to secure the three-count. Zeuxis attempted a Liger Bomb of her own, but Kid countered it mid-air with a twisting roll-up for a reversal pinfall. The field narrowed down to the final four: Kid, Mei, Lluvia, and Tessa.
Mei blasted Lluvia with a superkick, following up with a release German suplex. She climbed the turnbuckle, but Lluvia intercepted her with a superplex. Leaving Mei draped across the ropes in the corner, Lluvia nailed a Tarantula-style dropkick for the three-count.
Kid immediately launched a diving body attack at Lluvia, but Lluvia sidestepped. Lluvia then scooped Kid up, initiating a double-team combination: Lluvia hit a blockbuster directly into a stunner from Tessa.
Tessa and Lluvia then strung Kid up in the ropes, with Tessa grabbing at Kid’s mask. The duo went for another tandem attack, but Kid threw them both across the ring with a double tijeras.
Tessa locked Kid in a full nelson, but Lluvia’s dropkick went awry, striking her own partner. Lluvia tried for La Casita, but only got a two-count. Kid instantly trapped Lluvia in the Kokko Kyakusatsu and forced the submission.
Only Kid and Tessa remained. The final two were the very same competitors set to clash for the CMLL World Championship at the upcoming Aniversario event on the 18th.
Kid went for a schoolboy. She then gambled on the Kokko Tenbatsu, but it only yielded a two-count. Kid played to the crowd and climbed the corner, but Tessa intercepted her. As Tessa climbed up, Kid hammered her back with elbows. Kid looked for a superplex, but Tessa fought out with rapid headbutts. Finally, Tessa hit a top-rope codebreaker to put away a resilient Kid, claiming the Copa Independencia 2026.
With the Independence Cup in hand, Tessa offered a handshake to Kid. However, Kid shook her head and refused. Heading into their impending title bout at the Aniversario on the 18th, the rivalry between the two burned hotter than ever.
